How to Recover Deleted WhatsApp Photos and Videos (2026)
Photos and videos behave differently from text when they're deleted for everyone. Whether you can get one back depends on whether your phone had already downloaded it. Check these in order.
1. Check your gallery
If Media visibility (Android) or Save to Photos (iPhone) was on, WhatsApp may have already copied the photo to your gallery. Look in the WhatsApp Images / WhatsApp Video album. A copy saved there often survives even after the sender deletes it in the chat.
To turn it on for the future: WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Media visibility (Android) or Save to Photos (iPhone).
2. Check the WhatsApp media folder (Android)
Open the Files app and go to Internal storage → Android → media → com.whatsapp → WhatsApp → Media. Look inside WhatsApp Images and WhatsApp Video, sorted by date. If the file was auto-downloaded, it may still be there.
3. Restore a backup
If your Google Drive or iCloud backup includes videos and ran after the photo arrived, restoring it can bring the media back. Restoring replaces your current chats with the backup, so use this only for something important.
4. Catch deleted media automatically
Anti-Delete by Infinito Chat saves photos and videos the moment they reach you, before anyone can delete them. When a sender deletes one, the saved copy appears in your Anti-Delete list with who sent it and when. It works through WhatsApp's Linked devices on both Android and iPhone.
Limit: it only saves media that arrives after you link it.
Quick answers
The photo never downloaded. Can I get it? Usually not with the free methods, because the file never reached your phone. Anti-Delete downloads it on arrival, so it's kept even if you never opened the chat.
Does the sender get notified? No.
Anti-Delete saves deleted texts, photos, videos and statuses, on Android and iPhone. ₹299/month, cancel any time.
